Evil google ad redirects

I've noticed that when I click on a link in google's search results, I am redirected to an ad. This happens the first time you try to access a link and is extremely annoying. The whole notion of unwanted interruption advertising is enough to get me to begin an earnest search for alternatives.

Has the same thing been happening to you?

Rule by Gun

To rule by the gun is to rule by fear. To rule by the gun is to believe that the gun is more powerful than love. Despite all efforts of those with guns to stop people from loving, some people continue to love in the face of certain death. Conversely all of the love in the world has not currently stop the use of guns. Are they then equal since they both are allowed to exist? Do they serve different purposes and should be considered discontinuous or not related? Perhaps there are situations for love and situations for guns and we leave it at that. Of course then there is the problem of when to love and when to shoot and is shooting in that situation love and how does the shooting relate to rule by fear? It is evident that separating fear and love, or should I say violence and love is not as easy as others would make it sound. In the end they are tools in a tool chest that empower purpose. The fundamental question remains of who to serve because only one, God or not God, can be served as our rule reflects our service.

A simple argument for inclusivism

The God of the Bible is the God of all flesh (Jer 32:27)
His nature and power are seen by the things he has made (Rom 1:20)
God clearly speaks to and has relationship with those outside of the “chosen” faith (Acts 10:1-8)
The whole earth is full of his glory (Isa 6:3)
The heavens declare his righteousness and all peoples behold his glory (Ps 97:6)

The verses chosen concentrate on what is as opposed to what will be. This gives rise to application regarding what others in other cultures might do with that which is. It is right to believe that God is working to save all people in all contexts.

The limiting factor in all of this is that the God of the Bible lays out clear doctrines on sin, salvation and the exclusivity of Jesus Christ. Note it is the exclusivity of Jesus Christ and not of the church.

A Little Hypocrisy

Ok...one more on abortion and then I will leave it alone. And why do I talk about abortion? Because it really represents the crossing of a line that should not be crossed. I am not saying that there are not difficult decisions around the whole issue (what to do with the babies if they are kept, should the women who have them be criminally prosecuted if they were illegal, social guidance for avoiding the situation in the first place, etc.).

In any case the fact that emotional appeal against the practice is not made is quite astounding. You will find more news pieces making emotional appeals for animal rights than for the rights of the unborn.

Are there similar stories on abortion? I don't think so.

I purposely used Fox News as most liberals (or progressives as some like to be called) think it is a conservative station. Guess again. Fox News is in the end no different.

Train Up a Child…

This morning was one of those time when I was reminded why I remain in partnership with the biblical worldview.

Current neuroscience has located an area of the brain that plays a key role in moral judgments. This region of the brain (right temporal parietal junction or RTPj) develops over time allowing us to make increasingly complex moral judgments as we age.

Thus the reality training up a child in the way he should go has a related physical structure. In other words this training actually changes the child.

Interestingly, application of magnetism to this region can affect moral choices.

These facts reinforce in me the idea that there is meaning inherent in physical structures and that we have the capacity to influence the which structures exist in us through thought and action.

Knowing this we see why governments are interested in thought control and would seek to make certain thoughts illegal. If certain thought patterns produce people that are no susceptible to the media machine and are able to see through the lies, these people will need to be neutralized with respect to their agenda.

The idea that there is a God that mandates His moral standard will always be frightening to those that are unwilling to submit. You cannot serve God and money at the same time.

Proverbs 22:6
Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

Temporary Identity

Listening to an interview with Clara Shih on blogtalkradio, she believes that the concept of temporary identity is going to be something important for people to manage as more individual identities become tied to the branding of the companies they work for.

In a sense, who we are, becomes in a public way, a central element to the face of a company. This is not entirely a new concept in that leaders and creative people in public positions (writers, artists, high level managers) take their identities with them when they leave.

Perhaps the model of musicians and actors is start in thinking about it. They often disappear for a few years and then come back reinvented. A classic example would be John Travolta.

Another issue Shih mentions is content ownership. Most companies however will claim ownership of whatever ideas you come up with under their employ. As employees generate more and more ideas it may be difficult for companies to really enforce these claims. Like with plagiarism, it will become more difficult tell who came up with an idea first as many people will be working on the same problems publicly.

Temporary identity is an interesting idea that may be worth thinking about.
