I have come to see that the more knowledge one gains the more difficult it is to maintain "happiness." There is so much suffering, so much deceit, and so little ability to effect immediate change. It is a sure path to depression when you consider how little power you really have.
It is the knowledge of God alone that brings comfort. It has taken me a long, long time to experience this. Our power comes from Him, for his purposes, by His timing. It is not our own, nor is it for ourselves.
The pain of knowledge still increases with learning. God's grace and joy somehow match to counter the pain.
It is so important to recognize the actuality of the pain. Denial is a sure path to apostasy.
